About Us

NERDterpreter was established in the Kansas City metro area by E. Peige Turner in 2016.  After having a booth at one of the midwest’s largest conventions, she saw an opportunity to bring language access to a highly visual event.  

Across the nation, there are interpreters who work/specialize in comic book conventions, however there was a missing element. Looking into language accessible conventions, all interpreted panels were predetermined by hearing coordinators.  This limited Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals to their access.  It seemed that accessibility was provided at a very small percentage. 

Knowing many Deaf individuals who love comics, Peige decided to approach language access a little differently. Since 2016 (and some small pro-bono work prior), the mission has been to develop a DHH lead approach to convention language access; We provide interpreters on demand.
